Explore Engineering
EE curriculum:
Explore Engineering, a program designed by practicing engineers and managers from IITs and other premier institutes, is full of learning and design activities organized around fields of Engineering like Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Control, Computing, and Robotics.
Explore Engineering is based on Bloom's Taxonomy, a progressive and incremental method of learning in which students are first exposed to simple ideas they are comfortable with. Later, these simple ideas become the foundation for the learning of more complex ideas.
Why Explore Engineering:
We are surrounded by products of Engineering, each one a testimony of a curious and imaginative mind. The essence of engineering is using one's imagination in making and remaking our world, being not content with what we got and continuously trying to improve what we got.
Our school going teenagers connect with Engineering naturally! They are curious and full of energy to explore. They are curious about how things work - be it a laptop or a cell phone. They are interested in making new contraptions - for a science project or just for fun. They are independent thinkers interested in exploring possible career options before deciding on one.
Recognizing this, we have designed a program "Explore Engineering" to address and properly channelize the curiosity and energy of these teenagers.
In Explore Engineering our students undergo a systematic exposure to various fields of Engineering and the process of Engineering Design through engaging, "Hands-On-Heads-On", activities set in the context of real world scenarios.
How this program benefits our students:
Areas, related to curriculum and career, where Explore Engineering benefits students include
Academics
For our students learning Maths and Physics becomes more relevant and thus more fun.
We give our students a solid foundation in Physics. Our students perform activities and experiments to understand the Physics, Engineering & Design in everyday products. In the process they get introduced to many concepts and terminology related to Physics that they will learn in more detail in 11th and 12th Stanard.
In Maths our students study problem solving strategies in maths, work with algebraic equations, exponents, make geometrical constructions, analyze data, programmatically answer questions on prime numbers, series ....etc
They develop study skills, learn and practise "reading technique - SQ3R".
Life Skills
Our students hone their:
Thinking Skills - Creative thinking, Logical reasoning, Analysis, and Problem solving.
Soft Skills - Presentation, Communication, Team work, Goal Setting, and Time Management.
Basics of Engineering, Design and IT
Our students develop an understanding of:
- What engineering is, what do engineers do, and the process of engineering design.
- Concepts central to engineering e.g. System, Modeling, Constraints, Optimization, Side effects.
- Interdisciplinary nature of engineering projects.
- Human centered design.
- Necessity of mathematical and logical thinking in Engineering, Design and IT.
Shaping their career choices
Students get exposure to various career paths in the field of Engineering
They get exposed to the selection process in Design Schools like NID, MIT School of design
They understand what it takes to be a good engineer/designer/ IT professional
EE as driver of Innovation
What do students learn, in this program, outside the normal school curriculum?
In a word, it is about Innovation, the essence of engineering. It is about how you approach problems, how you look for improvements, how to be sensitive to the users' needs; how to be a life-long learner and how to look for opportunities where knowledge thus gained can be applied.
